Babies and Pumpkins

Today we celebrated a friend of mine (Kayla) and her precious baby girl at their baby shower. Kassidy decided she needed to make her arrival the date of the original baby shower. I don't think anyone minded having the shower rescheduled with a new guest on the list!  Kassidy is very tiny weighing in at maybe six pounds compared to Mayson's twelve pounds so she just makes him look like a monster! It was fun to see all the adorable little girl items they received, play games, and cuddle little Miss. Most importantly it was great to spend time with one of my best friend's Christina. About two years ago she moved to Oregon to be with her husband who is in the coast guard stationed there, so we don't get to see her near as much as we would like! I was excited to have her meet Mayson and do lots of much needed catching up, as well as share in her experience of becoming an Aunt for the first time!
Mom and Kassidy with us. Doesn't she make Mayson look so big?? :(

The new Aunt and one of my very best friend's, Christina.
Baby Kassidy (aka little Kasserole). She is just too cool.
After the shower we came home to have some family time! I have been so excited for pumpkin carving this year. In the ten years Matt and I have been together we have never even bought a single pumpkin. I was pretty excited when he agreed to let us buy some and carve them for Mayson! Last year a friend of mine put her baby inside the pumpkin for pictures. I loved the idea and just had to try it. Mayson was not excited about this idea at all. I don't think he liked the cold or the gooeyness of the inside because once we pulled him out and wrapped a towel around him he was just fine.

After torturing our baby, I mean making good photo ops, we carved Mayson's first pumpkin! I did not want to do the traditonal Jack O Lantern face. I had seen cute pumpkins with the baby hands as the eyes then a nose and mouth. I liked that idea, but so many people were doing that so I decided we should just do his hand and foot. I traced his hand and foot on a piece of paper, cut it out, then traced on the pumpkin for Matt to carve it out. It wasn't near as easy as I had thought it would be. First off, Mayson was squirmy as can be while I was trying to trace. Secondly, when carving the small spaces between fingers and toes do not shape as well as I had hoped and expected. However, I am very happy for the family time and the experience of celebrating Mayson's first Halloween!

Matt carving Mayson's first pumpkin and his first time ever doing the carving of a pumpkin!
His hands and feet are just so adorable!!

The finished product

This week I will be putting Mayson in all of his Halloween outfits in order to properly celebrate his first  holiday! I can't wait to put him in his costume Thursday! This is also my last week off of work, which I am having a very hard time dealing with, so I plan on spending it cuddling my boys and doing a bunch of nothing!! Until next time.....

Our Little Family

Our little family consists of Me (Lacey), my husband Matt, and our adorable little man Mayson. Matt and I were just in high school when we started dating. We spent 7 years as a couple before he took me to Las Vegas and proposed in front of the Bellagio water show. We then spent a year as an engaged couple before having the wedding of our dreams two years ago in July.

After our first anniversary we started to realize it was time to add to our family of two and become a family of three. After a few months we got the best news. I was pregnant. In just nine months we would be parents. Pregnancy was not my favorite, but I knew the reward at the end would be better than any other prize I had received in my life. I was correct.

In August we welcomed our handsome little man, Mayson. Our world was changed forever in the most perfect way possible and I cannot imagine our lives without him. I didn't realize I could love someone in the very instant I saw him, but with Mayson that was exactly how quickly I fell head over heels in love. The very second they laid him on my chest my heart filled with more love then I even knew existed and I know Matt agrees.

A little about us as individuals.
Lacey: I am 25 years old. I have ten siblings (my parents divorced, remarried and had children with their new spouse, and three of my siblings were adopted). I am the oldest of all of my siblings. I can be quite bossy because of this. I am a pediatric nurse on the pulmonary unit. I absolutely love my job (although I sure have enjoyed the last 12 weeks off of work, and dread leaving my boy, I do miss my patients and co-workers). My unit specializes in those with respiratory difficulties such as Cystic Fibrosis, Asthma, RSV, the flu, pneumonia, obstructive sleep apnea, trachs, just to name a few. My favorite patient population is our CF population. More on that later. I absolutely love being a Christian, wife and mom! My hobbies include reading (Alot), spending time with family, scrapbooking (even if I haven't done it in a very long time because of lack of time), and taking pictures of my family.

Matt: Matt is 27 years old. He is the youngest of three. Matt received his degree in accounting and finance and now works as a financial analyst. He is quite the jokester and loves to play tricks on anyone he can (also loves to hide and scare me because I am so easily scared). He is very into sports. Mostly football and basketball. High school, college, professional it doesn't matter if you get him talking sports you will be talking for quite some time. I always tell him he should have been a coach or sports announcer. He has a huge heart and will do anything to help out his family and close friends. I

Mayson: Mayson is now 11 weeks old and is the most adorable cuddly little guy ever. He is starting to smile, laugh and coo much more frequently now. He loves to be held, talked to, and played with. He has rolled over a few times, holds his head very steadily, and is now discovering his hands which means they are constantly in his mouth. He is growing so quickly and I love watching him learn new things everyday, but sure do wish I could keep him little forever!  His biggest dislikes are the car seat and tummy time.

I may not be the best writer in the world, but I want a way to have all of my favorite memories in one place and to share our family adventures with others. Many of our adventures will be about Mayson, but also about our love for our small family as well as our large extended family! Until next time....
